Press Release

This year, iFest comes to Oxford. iFest is a two week long festival at Oxford University which aims to expose the average student to Israel, beyond the politics. Particularly with the controversial speakers at the Oxford Union earlier this year, we feel that many students have not had chance to see Israel except in terms of the conflict. With this festival, we hope to introduce Oxford students and citizens to the unique culture, the innovations and the great global contributions made by this tiny country.

The Festival will include three talks given by world-experts: on Israel’s contribution to the environment, entrepreneurship in Israel and Israeli medical breakthroughs. The highlight of the Festival will be a Fair held in Broad Street on May 5th. This which will feature camels, stalls offering Israeli food and wine, through to Dead Sea health and beauty products, a live performance by a top Israeli singer, belly dancing, and much more. Spiro Ark, a London-based Jewish charitable organization has been instrumental in helping to organize the fair and provide stands. Without their assistance, it is unlikely that the fair could have got off the ground. We hope to show all sides of Israeli culture at the fair, including its Arab and Druze elements and there will be representatives from three faiths holding stands. There will also be a free showing of an award-winning Israeli film in Jericho’s Phoenix Picture House, and a club night to celebrate Israel’s 60th birthday.
