It took Phileas Fogg 80 days to go round the world; this evening Jose Dent and Barbara Steinberg, the Chairman and Administrator of the British Friends of JBG will take you on a glorious illustrated trip around the delights of the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens in a mere 80 paces! Covering more than 45 acres and containing more than 10,000 species of rare and more common plants from all over the world, the Gardens provide a quiet, colourful place bursting with trees, plants, birds and butterflies where you can walk, learn and relax.

José Dent trained as a television producer and worked for Associated Redifusion when commercial television first went on the air in the late 1950’s. She left to get married and has three children. Jose then worked in a Citizen’s Advice Bureau for five years, and subsequently became a magistrate for 20 years.

Jose founded the British Friends of the Botanical Gardens 25 years ago.

Barbara Steinberg worked for the Central Electricity Generating Board and became Head of the Film and Video Unit of the newly nationalised National Power.

Barbara then joined a private company providing training materials for the merchant marine industry and commissioned writers and designers for all the printed materials. Additionally, she ran their accredited distance learning courses.

Barbara became the Administrator for the British Friends of Jerusalem Botanical Gardens 3 years ago. When asked at her interview about her gardening knowledge she replied 'I like watching gardening programmes on TV'. However, she has learned so much since then that she participated in this year's Working Holiday to the Gardens.
