Dear Friends,

The war in Lebanon has come to a halt but the future seems uncertain. Has there been a winner and if so who was it? Who do we consider to be the loser and why? What are the lessons for the next round? Does the ceasefire have a chance to last? Who is going to be accountable for mistakes which have occurred during the war and in the years leading up to it? Can the Prime Minister be accountable for military mistakes? Were the reservists sent without sufficient preparation or adequate equipment? Was it wrong to appoint an Air Force man as the Chief of Staff when the war was fought mainly on the ground?

Has anything been gained? Will UNIFILL be a sufficient guarantee for the safety of Israel’s North? What about Syria? Iran? The Arab League?

Where does the Israeli economy stand now? The country’s strong economy is in sharp contrast to the large number of people suffering poverty in Israel.
